Russian MFA’s spokesperson Zakharova reports about Vatican’s apology for remarks about Chechens

Vatican apologized for the Pope Francis’ words about the alleged cruelty of the militaries from Chechnya and Buryatia, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that when speaking about the events in Ukraine in an interview to the “America” magazine, Pope Francis called the “most cruel” fighters from Russia who do not adhere to the “Russian tradition – Chechens, Buryats.” Akhmed Dudaev, Chechen Minister of Press, considered the remarks of Pope Francis as an attack on Ramzan Kadyrov. When commenting on the Pope’s words about the alleged cruelty of Chechen combatants in Ukraine, Ramzan Kadyrov himself called Pope Francis “a victim of foreign media propaganda.”

Russia received an apology from Vatican for the remarks of Pope Francis about the alleged cruelty of Chechens and Buryats in the zone of the Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, announces Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

“The Holy See treats with deep respect all peoples of Russia, their dignity, faith and culture, as well as other countries and peoples of the world,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova quoted Vatican as stating.

Maria Zakharova has emphasized that such an approach to own mistakes is respected by Moscow.
