In Kuban, court justifies arrest of defendant by mobilization

A resident of the Krasnodar Territory was arrested on the basis of “military amendments” to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which entered into force on September 24. This was reported by Pavel Chikov, the head of the “Agora” human rights group.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on partial mobilization, instructing the heads of the regions to ensure the conscription of the military reserve for military service.

The first case in Russia of the application of new amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, introduced on the eve of the mobilization, was recorded in the Krasnodar Territory. The amendment, which made the commission of a crime during the period of the mobilization an aggravating circumstance, became an argument in favour of the arrest of the local resident, Pavel Chikov reported on his Telegram channel.

“The young man is accused of a crime of medium gravity, and in such cases, as a rule, no pre-trial restriction measure in the form of detention is applied,” the human rights defender wrote on Telegram.

Advocate Mikhail Benyashuk clarified in his Telegram channel that the arrest of the young man was challenged.
