Energy company fined for blackouts in houses of Makhachkala residents

The “Rosseti Severny Kavkaz” Company was fined 3.2 million roubles for power outages in residential buildings in Makhachkala. The fine for interruptions in the supply of electricity to Makhachkala residents became the second in a month.

On September 3, after the accident at an electrical substation, more than 40,000 residents of Makhachkala were deprived of the supply of electricity.

On August 17, about 50 residents of Makhachkala blocked one of the city streets for half an hour, demanding to resolve the problem of daily power outages. Residents complained that regular blackouts began several months ago.

The Dagestani Department of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia (known as FAS) fined the “Rosseti Severny Kavkaz” Company for 3.2 million roubles for cut offs of the electricity supply to the houses of Makhachkala residents. The Dagestani FAS Department suggested that the “Rosseti Severny Kavkaz” Company allowed “exceeding the permissible number of hours of power outages in residential buildings” in Makhachkala.

Magomed Alibekov, Dagestani Deputy Minister of Energy, said that frequent blackouts occurred due to worn-out electrical grids, which had not been repaired in recent decades. Residents of the republic believe that the dilapidated state of power grids is connected with the poor work of local officials.
