Defence points to inconsistencies in case of activist Magsud Aliev

The protocol on disobeying a policeman drawn up against Magsud Aliev, an Azerbaijani activist, contains no proofs of his guilt, his advocate asserts. Magsud Aliev is prosecuted on trumped-up charges, Rufat Safarov, Magsud's father and human rights defender claims.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21, relatives informed that Magsud Aliev, who used to criticize Azerbaijani authorities in social networks, was accused of disobeying a policeman and arrested.

Nemat Kerimli, the advocate, has noted that Aliev treats his arrest as politically motivated. "He is sure that he was arrested for the question asked to Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), about Azeri President, Ilham Aliev, on August 12 on the 'Caspian PlatForum' Internet platform," the advocate has explained.

Aliev asked the PFPA leader about Ilham Aliev, comparing him with the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the Ukrainian President, Vladimir Zelensky. His question caused laughter in the hall.

"Apparently, the sarcastic tone of the question, which caused laughter in the hall, sparked an angry authorities' reaction; and they decided to punish the young man with arrest," Rufat Safarov, who is also the executive director of the NGO "Defence Line", has stated.
