Chechen woman detained on suspicion of practicing witchcraft

Chechen Instagram* publics have posted a video in which a woman in a hijab rings the doorbell of an apartment, and then pours something under it. Commentators have suggested that she is engaged in witchcraft. The next day, she was detained: the video says that the woman was "known for her witchcraft" and failed to follow the advice to stop her practices.

On August 20, a video was posted in the Internet, in which an unknown man scolds the heroine of the video clip. "We've caught the heroine of the yesterday's video. She scattered the wheat for a short time," the description says.

Let us remind you that residents of Chechnya are subjected to public scolding for engaging in occultism or turning to sorcerers. On March 11, the "Grozny" TV Channel posted a report about a female resident of the Nozhai-Yurt District, who was detained for occultism.

In 2013, persecution of healers and psychics was unfolded in Chechnya, when, amid the fight against magicians and sorcerers announced by Ramzan Kadyrov, dozens of people were detained, and some went missing.

*On March 21, 2022, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities of the "Meta" Company (that owns the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp) in Russia because of its extremist activities.
