On August 9, the Astrakhan Regional Court received a criminal case against Magomed Alkhanov, charged with encroachment on the life of militaries, participation in an armed rebellion in Chechnya, and with other crimes, including escaping from a psychiatric hospital in Astrakhan.

"The defendant, being a member of an armed gang led by Shamil Basaev and Khattab, took part in an armed rebellion, and in February-March 2000, near the village of Ulus-Kert, Shatoi District, committed an armed attack on servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation," the Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) informed on its website.

Every month, quarter, and every year, the “Caucasian Knot” posts statistics with regard to victims of the armed conflict in the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) in Section “Northern Caucasus: Statistics of Victims”.
