Offer to introduce visas for Russians in Georgia is consequence of Kremlin's policy

It is necessary to establish control over the citizens of Russia and Belarus who have arrived in Georgia, since their presence carries risks for the country, analysts and oppositional politicians have pointed out.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 2, the "Lelo" oppositional party suggested that Georgian authorities should introduce the visa regime for citizens of Russia and Belarus, while the term of a tourist visa should not exceed 30 days.

The introduction of the visa regime for citizens of Russia and Belarus is required in Georgia to establish control over them, so that they enter for tourist purposes, the initiator of the legislative changes, the "Lelo" Party has explained. In particular, it is proposed not only to introduce the visa regime, but also to limit and maximally control the acquisition of real estate, including land plots; granting the residence permit and registering businesses, the party said in a statement sent to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Mamuka Zhgenti, an employee of the Institute of Georgia's European Values, has noted that one of the serious dangers of Russian citizens' stay in Georgia originates from the current policy of the Kremlin. If any incidents occur in the country, then Russia will begin protecting its citizens in foreign territories.
