Sochi authorities' report about elimination of bad weather consequences sparks criticism in social network

After a heavy rain, residential houses located in the Lazarevsoye District of Sochi are flooded, communal services are eliminating the consequences, and officials are calculating the damage, local authorities have reported. In Sochi, flooding occurs regularly because of failed storm water drains and non-systematic city development, users of the "VKontakte" social network assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 24, residents of Krasnodar complained that streets in some city districts had been flooded after a rainstorm.

On July 22, heavy rain began in Sochi, which caused on July 23 flooding in the Lazarevskoye District of the city. In particular, some central streets of the district were flooded, the "Sochinews.io" outlet has reported.

This information was confirmed by the city administration. "A large-scale work is underway in the city to eliminate the consequences of bad weather. Public utilities are clearing clogged storm drains; damage to power lines is recorded," the Sochi administration has explained in its "VKontakte" page.

Most of the commentators have criticized the city officials for the failed storm water draining system in Sochi.

"In pursuit of profits from vacationers, they've erected buildings, but failed to take into account storm water drains, outlets and storage tanks. Now it's a problem," Alexei Ashomko has stated. "During the construction, natural water flows from the mountains were disturbed. Therefore, water is flowing along streets," says Alexander Robertus. "Last year, Anapa got drowned; this year, Sochi has. And what is the reason? Yes, only in that they build up every free centimetre, without making any storm water or drainage systems," Mikhail Balin believes.
