Activists demand to verify information about mass voter bribery in Georgia

The NGO “Transparency International Georgia” states that the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia should check the information of Soso Gogashvili, the former deputy chief of the State Security Service, who claims that law enforcers were urging voters to give their voices for the ruling party in exchange for mitigation or cancellation of punishments.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 16, law enforcers detained Soso Gogashvili, who earlier stated that he had information about the fabricated voting results in the 2021 elections.

The Georgian NGO “Transparency International Georgia” has applied to the country’s Chief Prosecutor’s Office with a request to conduct an investigation in connection with the publication of the Soso Gogashvili’s materials on fraud in the municipal elections in 2021, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been informed by Giorgi Oniani, the spokesperson of the NGO “Transparency International Georgia”.

According to him, the documents submitted by Soso Gogashvili contain e-mail addresses to which hundreds of files were sent. Presumably, those e-mail addresses belong to employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). In particular, the letters contained lists of voters who were promised the abolition of probation and the restoration of a driver’s license. In total, there are about 900 people on the list.
