Prosecutor demands to cancel court ruling on Pyotr Parpulov's release

The court has decided to release Pyotr Parpulov, a resident of Sochi, due to his grave disease, but the prosecutor has challenged this ruling.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January 2016, Pyotr Parpulov was sentenced to 12 years in a high security colony on charges of high treason.

Today, on July 19, the Tambov City Court plans to consider the prosecutor's protest against the May 26 ruling to release Pyotr Parpulov from custody because of his illness.

"The judge of the Tambov City Court <...> has ruled in favour of my father. As stated in the ruling, the father falls under Part 2, Article 81 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (release from serving a sentence due to illness)," Yulia, a Parpulov's daughter, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on July 18 having provided the "Caucasian Knot" with the ruling.

Yulia has also stated that the Tambov City Prosecutor had filed an appeal against the ruling, referring to the convict's "relatively normal" state of health.

Yulia Parpulova and her father's advocate treat the prosecutor's arguments as far-fetched, since with his illness he must be released by the law.

The daughter fears that given the illness her father will simply not survive till the end of his term. "My father just turned 68 years. They just slowly bring him to death. He applied for pardoning every year, but every year the pardoning was denied," she has complained.
