Poti protesters demand to meet Georgian Premier

The residents of the city of Poti, who demand to be moved to new homes because of the transhipment of hazardous cargos in the seaport, have blocked the road to the port. They demanded that Irakli Garibashvili, the Georgian Prime Minister, come and meet with them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 11, participants in the protest action in Poti stated that in the seaport goods, including substances harmful to human health, were being transhipped, which caused local residents to suffer; protesters blocked the road to the port. Poti authorities promised to resettle residents of nearby houses.

On Tuesday (July 12), local residents' protest continued in Poti. They demanded from the authorities to resettle them into new houses and pay monetary compensations, then "Formula" TV has reported.

"We demand to be resettled to a safe place. We have been doing it for four years already. People are getting poisoned; we are in a very difficult situation," the "Sputnik.Georgia" has quoted a one of female protesters as stating.

Giorgi Guguchiya, the Governor of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region, came to meet the protesters. According to his story, dissatisfied residents demand what local authorities are unable to do.

Later, the protesters unblocked the road on the condition that the Prime Minister meet them and listen to their demands.
