EU allocates 4 million euros to Azerbaijan for demining

Azerbaijan will receive additional funds from the European Union (EU) for demining the territories affected by the Karabakh conflict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 30, British authorities decided to allocate £500,000 to the UN Development Program to support demining of territories in Azerbaijan and Armenia.

According to Toivo Klaar, the EU Special Representative for Southern Caucasus and Georgian Crisis, the funds will be provided to the Azerbaijani National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).

The Baku representative office of the EU has reported that after the 44-day war in Karabakh in the fall of 2020, the EU had already provided 2.5 million euros to the ANAMA for demining.

"After the autumn 2020 war, a number of international organizations and individual countries are helping Azerbaijan with demining, but the biggest support comes from the EU," Togrul Djuvarly, a member of the Azerbaijan National Public Committee for European Integration, has explained.

When mines explode in the territories that came under Azerbaijan's control of after the 2020 Karabakh war, people are regularly killed and injured. Thus, on June 27, police sergeant Ilham Salmanov was blown up by a mine in the village of Ashagy Seidakhmedli, Fizuli District.
