Azeri Prosecutor's Office again refuses to open case against doctors who treated Gyulyalyev
The Nasimi District Prosecutor's Office has again refused to open a criminal case against the doctors who had treated the human rights defender, Ogtai Gyulyalyev. His family intends to continue steps in order to hold the doctors accountable.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January 2021, the Azerbaijani Prosecutor's Office launched a re-investigation into the treatment methods applied to Gyulyalyev, who spent more than a year in coma. In December 2021, the prosecutor's office refused to open a criminal case against the doctors, finding no crime attributes in their actions. On April 14, 2022, the court overturned the decision of the prosecutor's office, and ruled to return the case to the prosecutor's office.
On October 29, 2019, Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the head of the public alliance "Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners", who earlier that day held a press conference on the campaign against torture, was hit down by a car. On November 8, 2020, after treatment in Istanbul, he was brought home.
Firuza Gyulyalyeva, his wife, said that "according to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination," the essays prior to the surgery were carried out in full, and the applied resuscitation measures corresponded to the patient's condition.
"Of course, this is not true… We were told at the clinic that there were no indications for a neurosurgical operation… As a result, time was lost," Ms Gyulyalyeva has stated.
Let us remind you that investigators came to the conclusion that the road accident with Ogtai Gyulyalyev was not intentional; in response to this, human rights defenders demanded that the video of the accident be made public.
