Fifty-four media announce a boycott of Pashinyan’s press conference

The number of publications that decided to boycott Nikol Pashinyan’s online press conference has grown to 54. Media representatives called on the chair of the Armenian government to return to the pre-pandemic format of press conferences to allow journalists asking questions in person.

Earlier, the heads of 27 Armenian media refused to participate in Nikol Pashinyan’s press conference. The media believe that online communication between the Prime Minister and the press is proceeding according to the planned scenario and questions are agreed in advance with the organizers.

Representatives of eight Armenian media also called on Nikol Pashinyan to restore the previous format of press conferences, changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to them, questions are edited, their meaning is distorted or the sharpness of the question is smoothed out.

“As a result, the society’s ability to receive decent information is limited. Such a format of communication is discriminatory and ineffective. It contradicts the principle of transparency,” the media emphasize in their statement.
