Baku: war veterans demand from authorities to recognize them as disabled persons
War veterans have held an action, where they condemned bureaucrats' formalism in the work of medical and social care commissions.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Azerbaijani veterans of the Karabakh war have repeatedly complained about their poor social conditions, while the country's authorities are periodically reporting about their help to veterans. Thus, in October 2021, the Ministry of Labour reported on handing over the keys to 50 apartments to the families of those who perished in the 2020 Karabakh war, as well as to the disabled persons. On March 28, 2022, protesters in Baku stated that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) had failed to award the status of veterans to combatants in Nagorno-Karabakh, which deprived them of the right to benefits.
A group of participants in the Karabakh war have entered the building of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in Baku and expressed their protest, the "Meydan.tv" has reported.
Veterans complain about the refusal to assign the disability status and untimely summons to the commission. They demanded from the Minister, Sakhil Babaev, to come out to them and solve their problems. Having received a refusal, veterans stormed the waiting room, making a mess there. The police intervened in the incident.
A Ministry official has promised to "examine each case," the "Meydan.tv" reports.
"Particular attention is paid to the issue of disability of participants in the war in Karabakh. To date, 3000 war veterans have been diagnosed with disability," the outlet "ru.baku.ws" quotes the Ministry source as saying.
