In Tbilisi, ambulance workers complain about poor working conditions and low salaries

In the Georgian capital, employees of an ambulance station dissatisfied with working conditions and low salaries, threaten to start protest actions.

The employees of the ambulance station say that their salaries are not commensurate with the workload and schedule. According to the ambulance staff, over the past month, they have had their pandemic allowances removed and their salaries nearly halved. Within two weeks, employees of the ambulance station repeatedly met officials from the Ministry for Public Health, but the officials did not respond in time, said Maya Nakashidze, the head physician of the ambulance station.

She pointed to the heavy workload of the ambulance staff and the fact that their work is fraught with health risks because of the pandemic.

“We are mentally, physically, and emotionally overloaded. We have no other way left except for actions [of protest],” Maya Nakashidze said on the air of the “TV Formula” as translated from Georgian by the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

Maya Nakashidze has noted that the employees of the ambulance station are starting protests and will continue until their demands for decent salaries and adequate working conditions are met.
