Prior to oppositional motor rally, relatives of Armenian POWs block highway

The opposition's protest actions are hindering the return of Armenian soldiers from Azerbaijan, relatives of the Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) have suggested and blocked the Yerevan-Gyumri highway in order to stop the oppositionists' motor rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since April 25, the Armenian opposition has been holding rallies, marches and car rallies, demanding not to revise the status of Nagorno-Karabakh and resignation of Nikol Pashinyan's government.

On May 8, residents of the Shirak Region, including those of the POWs kept in Azerbaijan, blocked the Yerevan-Gyumri highway in order to prevent the participants in the oppositional motor rally from entering Gyumri. They demand from the opposition not to interfere with the return of POWs, believing that the protests disrupt the returning process.

Relatives claim that 38 out of 62 Armenian military servicemen from Gyumri have not yet returned from Azeri captivity.
