Georgian President declares support for anti-Russian sanctions

Georgia supports the international sanctions against Russia imposed because of the special operation in Ukraine. Because of this, Georgia is forced to suffer financial losses, Salome Zurabishvili, the President of Georgia, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after Russian troops launched their special operation in Ukraine on February 24, Western countries imposed sanctions against Russia, including financial ones. On February 25, Georgian authorities announced that the country would not join the financial and economic sanctions against Russia.

However, in her interview with the CNN, President Salome Zurabishvili has stated that the official Tbilisi supports all the international sanctions imposed on Russia after the latter's start of the special operation in Ukraine.

"First of all, we support all the international financial sanctions [against Russia], and this has an impact on the Georgia's financial sector," the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel has quoted Ms Zurabishvili as saying on its website today.

She has added that Georgia is also a party to the resolutions adopted to support Ukraine, the RIA "Novosti" has informed today.
