Representatives of Abkhazian NGO arrive to Nagorny Karabakh

At the NGO Resource Centre (RC) of Stepanakert, a meeting took place of the leaders of NGOs of Nagorny Karabakh with Batal Kobakhiya and Liana Kvarcheliya, representatives of the Centre for Humanitarian Programmes of Abkhazia. The meeting was organized within the framework of the Programme of the Stepanakert RC funded by the International Alert.

During today's meeting, Mr. Batal Kobakhiya and Ms. Liana Kvarcheliya told about the role of civil society and NGOs in political life of their country.

"I'm for the first time in Karabakh, and I'm struck by the fact that the post-war recovery is almost over here. In our country it's quite opposite. To be frank, we have some progress made recently, but nevertheless, the situation is different," Liana Kvarcheliya noted in her presentation. At the same time, it was emphasized that in the sense of civil supervision and influence on the authorities, the NGOs of Abkhazia are favourably different from those in Karabakh.

The Abkhazian public figures will stay in Karabakh till May 30 and hold a range of meetings and seminars with members of Karabakh NGOs. We note here that although cooperation between NGOs of Abkhazia and Nagorny Karabakh has a long history, it is not so active now.
