Homeless people in Batumi demand to give them apartments in squatter houses

The residents of Batumi from among those, who have no housing, have held a protest action and demanded from the officials to transfer apartments in nine high-rise buildings into their ownership.

The protest action was held in Batumi on March 18 in Gogol Street with the participation of several dozens Batumi residents, who have no housing; they demanded from the authorities not to demolish the above nine multi-storey buildings. Earlier, these buildings were recognized by the court as constructed illegally and subject to demolition, the "Batumilebi: outlet reported on March 18.

"Many people are homeless; why demolish these buildings. Give them to us," one of the protesters is quoted in the report.

The developer company has repeatedly been fined, but despite this, it continues building and has almost completed the construction, the "Sputnik Georgia" informed at night on March 19. "Let them let us in, those left without homes and paying rent for years," the outlet quotes one of the protesters as saying.
