UN General Assembly demands to withdraw Russian troops from Ukraine

141 states have supported the resolution of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly demanding to withdraw Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine and cancel the recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 2, Russian servicemen established control over the city of Kherson. Since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, a total of 498 Russian servicemen have perished, and 1597 others were wounded, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed.

On March 2, at its special session, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution in connection with the events in Ukraine. The resolution, which was co-authored by 96 countries, demands "from the Russian Federation to immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all its armed forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders" and "immediately and unconditionally cancel its decision on the status of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk Regions of Ukraine," the message on the UN website says.

The document calls on all the parties to comply with the Minsk agreements, resolve differences peacefully, and respect the international humanitarian law, which obliges to protect civilians and provide conditions for assistance. The resolution was supported by 141 countries, 35 states abstained, and five states voted against it, the report says.
