Refugees from Donbass tell about their desire to return home

The residents of Donbass, accommodated in the Rostov Region, have shared their fears for their relatives who remained at home, and expressed their desire to return to them as soon as possible.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 19, the first buses with refugees from the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) arrived in the Rostov Region. They complained that some accommodation points were not ready to receive them; and the travel was very difficult.

On February 18, the heads of the DPR and LPR announced the start of evacuation of their residents to Russia. By February 20, some 66,000 people arrived in the Rostov Region from Donbass.

Alina Krivdina, one of the refugees, said that she had to leave for Russia because "the situation was tense." "But as soon as everything normalizes, I will return; it's still better at home. Although we were nicely received here; the hotel is good," the woman has added.

Refugees reported that they were visited by doctors who vaccinated them against coronavirus.

Elena Selina, a pensioner from Lugansk, lamented that "I want Russia to take us under its wing, so that everything gets better – it's very hard to live like this, we've been waiting for peace for eight years."

Other refugees also expressed their desire to return home. "My father and mother remained in the LPR, they are militaries… When I was leaving, they were shooting," a young woman said.
