"Dozhd" TV Channel* appeals to ICRF regarding Kadyrov's accusations

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has publicly classified the "Dozhd" (Rain) TV Channel* as a terrorist; these statements fall under the article on inciting hatred or enmity, the TV Channel has pointed out.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 24, Ramzan Kadyrov, while commenting on the situation with the abduction of the mother of Abubakar Yangulbaev, a former lawyer of the "Committee against Torture" (CaT)*, listed the CaT head, Igor Kalyapin, and Elena Milashina, a journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper, among terrorists' accomplices. On February 2, at a rally in Grozny, residents of Chechnya called on Putin to stop the "Novaya Gazeta", the "Dozhd" TV Channel* and the CaT**.

On January 31, the "Novaya Gazeta" called on Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), to initiate a criminal case against Kadyrov under the article on inciting hatred. The CaT has noted that in Russia "permissiveness of Chechen authorities is being cultivated." On February 5, Abubakar Yangulbaev asked the ICRF to check the threats voiced out against his family. Human rights defenders were sceptical about the chances that the threats would be checked.
