Sister of Timur Tumgoev, native of North Ossetia, learns about his transfer to another colony

Timur Tumgoev, a native of North Ossetia, was transferred from the town of Balashov to the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Nizhny Novgorod, from where he they should be sent to the Vladimir Region, his sister, Marina Tumgoeva, has informed. According to her story, her brother received threats; and she fears for his life.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Timur Tumgoev, a native of Vladikavkaz, took part in a hunger strike held by prisoners of the Saratov colony, and cut himself in protest against custody conditions. On June 2, 2021, his advocated stated that Tumgoev was being provoked because of his faith and wearing a beard. On November 10, the court sentenced Tumgoev to eight additional months of freedom deprivation under the case of disorganizing the work of the correctional institution (colony).

Earlier, on June 26, 2019, the court sentenced Tumgoev to 18 years in colony. According the investigators, in 2014, he left for Syria and joined a grouping that was treated by the prosecution as a part of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia. In 2016, Timur Tumgoev was detained in Ukraine, and in 2018, he was extradited to Russia. Tumgoev himself admitted only the fact of his stay in Turkey. He called the accusation unfair, but expressed his readiness to go to the colony "by the will of Allah."

At the request of Marina Tumgoeva, Boris Ushakov, a rights defender and the coordinator of the Gulagu.net human rights project, filed a complaint with the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) regarding Timur's transfer. The former head of the colony threatened Timur Tumgoev with a transfer to a FSIN institution located in the Vladimir Region, "where a physical execution would be organized against him," Boris Ushakov has explained.
