Resident of Nagorno-Karabakh captured by Azerbaijani military forces

A 69-year-old resident of Berdzor got lost in the border area and was taken prisoner by the Azerbaijani military forces, the National Security Service of Nagorno-Karabakh reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 13, Armenian Ombudsperson Arman Tatoyan announced that a shepherd from the border village of Teg in the Syunik Region disappeared near the border with Azerbaijan. On the same day, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reported about handing over a resident of Armenia to peacekeepers.

Today, Andranik Aleksanyan, a resident of Nagorno-Karabakh, was taken into custody. Russian peacekeepers were informed about the incident. They assured that nothing threatened the man. Negotiations are underway regarding his return to the Armenian side.

Earlier, Gegam Stepanyan, Ombudsperson of Nagorno-Karabakh, has said that residents of border villages do not always understand where the line of demarcation lies. “Ordinary residents simply do not understand where they may walk without treats and where it is already dangerous for them,” the Ombudsperson stated.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 23, 2021, a resident of the Ashan community in the Martuni District of Nagorno-Karabakh got lost in the border area and was detained by the Azerbaijani military forces. On November 26, the man was returned to the Armenian side together with a captured soldier.
