Parliament of Georgia decides to set up a temporary administrative unit in South Ossetia

At its today's session, the Parliament of Georgia has passed a decision to create a temporary administrative unit in South Ossetia. The decision is based on the law earlier approved by the Parliament "On Setting up Proper Conditions for Peaceful Settlement of the Conflict in the Territory of Former South-Ossetian Autonomous Region." The decision was adopted by 149 versus 4 votes.

The decision will come into force right after its official publication in the press. Prior to adoption of the decision, a hearing was held at the Committee for Regional Policy, Self-Government and Mountainous Regions, where a number of deputies had expressed their negative attitude to use of the term "South Ossetia" in relation to the conflict region and moved their proposals on the status of the territory and terminology used in relation thereto.
