Petition in support of “Memorials”* gains more than 90,000 signatures

Within two days, the petition with the demand to prevent the liquidation of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) “Memorial”* and the “International Memorial”* got more than 6000 signatures .In total, 90,303 people have already signed the petition.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 12, after the lawsuits to liquidate the HRC “Memorial”* and the “International Memorial”*, an electronic petition was published on the “Change.org” website in support of both organizations.

By 2:06 p.m. Moscow time on November 24, the petition “Hands off the Memorial!” gained 90,303 signatures.

This is not the only petition in support of the HRC “Memorial”* and the “International Memorial”*. A separate declaration was signed by 65 members of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). According to scientists, the activities of the HRC “Memorial”* in preserving the memory of victims of repression exceed the activities of state-run research institutions. More than 100 artists, politicians, and human rights defenders signed a similar petition in defence of the HRC “Memorial”*.

*The organization has been put by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) on the register of NCOs performing the functions of a foreign agent.
