Peacemakers in Georgia promise to backfire if attacked

The situation in the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict zone continues to aggravate. The check-point of the Russian peacemaking battalion was shelled at the Georgian village of Megvrekisi, Vladimir Ivanov, assistant of the Commander of Mixed Peacemaking Forces (MPMF) in the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict zone, has told the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot."

"At night from March 25 to March 26, at 00:30 a.m., the check-point of the Russian peace-making battalion in the vicinity of the Georgian village of Megvrekisi was bombarded," Mr. Ivanov has reported. He also emphasized that no fire in response was opened.

The Unified Headquarter of the MPMF reminds that according to the peacemaking mandate of the forces, in such cases the soldiers of the peacemaking contingent have the right to open the return fire for effect.

He also added that such incidents exacerbate tensions that can result in destabilization of the situation in the conflict zone.
