Tbilisi doctors demand to transfer Saakashvili to private clinic

About a dozen doctors have held a protest action in front of the building of the Georgian Government in Tbilisi, where they demanded to transfer Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, a former president of Georgia, to a multifunctional private clinic.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that starting from October 1, Mikhail Saakashvili has been on the hunger strike in the prison in Rustavi. The former president of Georgia demands to release him. On November 8, the Georgian authorities decided to transfer the politician to a prison hospital. Mikhail Saakashvili refused to be transferred to a prison hospital and demanded to place him in a private clinic. On the night of November 9, the former president of Georgia announced that he had been tricked into a prison hospital and then beaten.

The Georgian opposition had announced its intent to hold daily protest actions demanding the release of the former president.

In the evening on November 9, about a dozen doctors held an action near the building of the Georgian Government in Tbilisi, at which they demanded from the authorities to transfer Mikhail Saakashvili to a private clinic. The doctors signed a petition to the country's authorities, the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel has reported as watched by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The council of highly qualified doctors has made a decision that Mikhail Saakashvili needs to be transferred to a multidisciplinary private clinic, which is superior in many aspects to the prison hospital, where Saakashvili is now kept," the doctor, Vazha Gaprindashvili, said on air of the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel.
