Court returns Inal Djabiev's death case to PO

The Tskhinvali City Court has demanded from the Prosecutor's Office (PO) to add information in the case of Inal Djabiev's death.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Djabiev died in August 2020 after being interrogated within the case of an attempt on the life of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of South Ossetia. Seven law enforcers were accused for Djabiev's death; and Andrei Tskhovrebov, a Deputy MIA head, was removed from office. Instagram users suggested that ordinary policemen would be accused, while their bosses would evade responsibility. On August 28, on the anniversary of Djabiev's death, activists reproached authorities for the fact that those in charge of Djabiev's death had not yet been punished.

On September 22, the Tskhinvali City Court returned the case of Djabiev's death to the PO because of revealed violations, the court's press service has reported.

The investigators have failed to present in the indictment the service duties of the defendants, who are charged with exceeding their service powers, the "Sputnik Ossetia" reports.

Let us remind you that after Djabiev's death, mass protests were held in South Ossetia; and a political crisis arose. From autumn 2020 to February 20201, a total of 16 MPs boycotted the work of the parliament; and its operation was completely paralyzed. Djabiev's relatives, dissatisfied with the course of investigation, staged a round-the-clock protest in Tskhinvali, which lasted from December 4, 2020, to February 26, 2021. Protesters demanded to dismiss Uruzmag Djagaev, the Public Prosecutor General, but stopped the protest without achieving the goal.
