Six Georgian citizens returned from Kabul

Six Georgian citizens, who had worked in Afghanistan and were unable to leave Kabul after the Taliban seized the city, have returned to Tbilisi. Georgian authorities are trying to organize the evacuation of the rest of Georgian citizens, the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that as of August 16, a total of 23 Georgian citizens, who had worked there under contract in private companies, remained in Kabul captured by the Taliban.

Six Georgian citizens have returned home from Kabul this morning. They were brought by a Hungarian plane, which was the result of "the active work of the Hungarian and Georgian parties," the press service of the Georgian Government has informed.

The Hungarian plane has taken out from Kabul those Georgian citizens who had worked for an American company, the "News-Georgia" has clarifies today.

Ilya Darchiashvili, the head of the Govt's administration, has assured that authorities are actively working with all foreign partners to organize additional flights and return the Georgian citizens who remained in Kabul to their homeland.

According to Alexander Gvtisiashvili, a Deputy Foreign Minister, the main problem of the Georgian citizens staying in Kabul is their arrival at the airport. "We are working towards getting them from the city to the airport, which is controlled by the American, British and Turkish militaries," he has explained.
