Doctors treat condition of Ogtai Gyulyalyev, Azeri rights defender, as stably grave
Ogtai Gyulyalyev was transferred to the intensive care unit; he is very weak, his son has informed. Clinics are afraid of responsibility for his health condition; as public attention is riveted to him, said Mekhman Aliev, the director of the "Turan" News Agency.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, 2019, Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the head of the Alliance "Azerbaijan Without Political Prisoners", after holding a press conference on the campaign against torture, was hit by a car. This April, his son reported that his father was recovering from the surgeries he had undergone in Turkey, but needs constant care. His relatives treated the medical aid to Gyulyalyev as unsatisfactory.
On August 5, doctors decided to send Gyulyalyev to the Topchibashev Scientific Research Institute of Surgery, since this Institute has better conditions for a specialized examination, Tebriz Gyulyalyev, the activist's son, has stated.
According to Mekhman Aliev, the director of the "Turan" News Agency, over the past 24 hours, Gyulyalyev was transferred to different hospitals for several times due to the increased public attention to his treatment. "Perhaps, given the social significance of Ogtai Gyulyalyev's personality and the increased attention to him in the society and abroad, the clinics wouldn't to take responsibility for fear of adverse consequences. As a result, Ogtai was accepted for treatment by the EGE-Hospital, one of the best country's private clinics," Mr Aliev has noted.
