Armenian soldier killed in a shootout at border

The Azerbaijani armed forces opened targeted fire on positions in the Ararat Region, and as a result, one Armenian soldier was killed, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia reported. One soldier of the Azerbaijani army was wounded as a result of a shelling attack from the Armenian side, the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Armenia and Azerbaijan regularly exchange accusations of shelling attacks. Today, the Azerbaijani MoD has accused Armenia of machine-gun shelling attacks. On July 10, Baku claimed a shelling attack on its positions in the bordering Gadabay District. The Armenian MoD denied those accusations.

“Units of the armed forces of Azerbaijan tried to carry out fortification works. After the Armenian side had attempted to stop those works, Azerbaijani soldiers opened targeted fire in the direction of the Armenian positions. As a result of the shootout, a member of the armed forces of Armenia was fatally wounded,” the “News Armenia” quotes the country’s MoD as reporting.

The Armenian MoD has warned that in the future, such steps “will be severely suppressed,” the “Sputnik Armenia” reports.

Today, units of the armed forces of Armenia have shelled the positions of the Azerbaijani army at the border with the Sadarak District of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence reported. As a result, Mardanly Ibadulla Magsud oglu, a soldier of the Azerbaijani army, has been wounded.
