After Lashkarava's death, activists expand protest geography

Journalists and opposition supporters took to large-scale actions in Tbilisi and other large cities of Georgia demanding resignation of the government and an inquiry into the death of Lekso Lashkarava, a cameraman of the "TV-Pirveli" Company.

On Sunday (July 11), mass protests were held in front of the parliament building in the context of the death of Lekso Lashkarava, who was beaten up on July 5 during actions against the gay parade in Tbilisi.

Georgian media have called on ambassadors of foreign countries to immediately respond to the July 5 persecutions of journalists and the government's inaction.

Several thousand people took part in an action in Tbilisi demanding the resignation of the government, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports. In solidarity with the suffered journalists, many came in shirts covered with red paint.

Dozens of journalists also took part in actions in Batumi, Zugdidi, Gori, Rustavi and Telavi. The participants thereof demanded to investigate Lashkarava's death and punish those responsible, the "News-Georgia" reports.

Let us note here that on July 6, policemen detained more than 100 people in Tbilisi for the violations committed during the action of those who were against the gay parade. 25 people were recognized as victims, including 19 journalists. A foreign tourist was stabbed.
