Russia's MFA gives positive echo to MCC co-chairs' meeting in Istanbul

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Russian Federation is positively estimating the outcomes of the meeting of the co-chairmen of the Mixed Control Commission (MCC) in Istanbul and welcomes the readiness of the parties to go on with the negotiations on settling the Georgian-Ossetian conflict within the MCC format," runs the Russian MFA's statement of March 23.

The participants of the Istanbul meeting of the MCC's co-chairs have discussed the situation in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone. They have dealt with the pressing issues concerning the economic rehabilitation of the region, interaction of law-enforcement agencies of the Georgian and Ossetian parties, creation of conditions for refugees to come home, and other MCC's priority directions.

The parties have agreed to hold a regular MCC plenary session in the near future in Tbilisi. The particular dates and agenda of the session will be coordinated in the course of preliminary consultations of the parties.
