USA helps Azerbaijan to fight avian flu

As soon as the end of March, the United States will help Azerbaijan, within the framework of fighting the avian flu virus, in building special laboratories in 12 regions of the country and equipping them with the required equipment. This news was announced at today's press conference by Ismail Gasymov, head of the State Veterinary Service of Azerbaijan.

Mr. Gasymov has noted that the latest monitoring had revealed no presence of avian flu in Azerbaijan. The most dangerous period for the virus spread is December-March, and it is already almost over. "However, the danger can arise in April as well, therefore, the monitoring will continue," the veterinary official has added.

He also reported to journalists that they had already lifted the ban on imports of poultry meat from Azerbaijan and eggs from Russia and Turkey, except for breeding eggs, forage and fodder additives. In his words, poultry meat and eggs can be used without any restrictions, since all these products are under veterinary supervision.
