Construction of houses for Karabakh refugees launched in Armenian village

The foundations of the first two houses for refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh have been laid in the border village of Nrnadzor, the Syunik Region. In total, it is planned to build a district of 30 houses at the expense of benefactors.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh are regularly holding protest actions, demanding from Armenian authorities to render help to them, including housing.

According to Nagorno-Karabakh's statistics service and according to the 2015 census, before the war of 2020, the republic's population was up to 150,000. After the war, up to 40,000 became forced migrants; and 25,000 are now in Armenia.

On May 8, the border village of Nrnadzor in the Syunik Region of Armenia saw a solemn ceremony of laying the foundations of two houses in a new district for refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh, where it is planned to build 30 houses, the "news.am" has reported.

The construction of the houses is carried out by the Megri Community Development Fund, and the project is funded by donors. According to Gurgen Grigoryan, Director of the Fund, the house-building programme will not be limited to 30 houses; it is planned to cover the entire Megri community, the "Sputnik-Armenia" reports.
