Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s arrest extended by three months

In Rostov-on-Don, a military court has extended until July 28 the arrest of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), accused of financing terrorism.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that according to the investigators’ version, Abdulmumin Gadjiev and his accomplices raised 68 million roubles and 200,000 US dollars for terrorists under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims. Abdulmumin Gadjiev pleads not guilty. His colleagues consider the criminal proceedings against the journalist to be pressure on him.

Colleagues and friends of Abdulmumin Gadjiev regularly hold pickets in Makhachkala in support of him. They demand to release the journalist and stop unreasonable arrests. On April 12, a founder and a deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik” held a picket.
