Social media users sceptical about promises to pay compensations to Irganai resettlers

More than 1150 families, whose houses fell into the flooded zone of the Irganai reservoir, failed to receive compensation for their houses; and more than 2000 families received no compensations for their lost gardens, the Dagestani authorities have stated, promising to solve these problems. People have been hearing the compensation promises for many years; they could have received compensations from the revenues of the Irganai hydroelectric power plant (HPP) that benefits from their land plots, Instagram users have suggested.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that for 12 years, Dagestani villagers can't receive their due compensation. Payments problems arose due to authorities' disagreements, the lawyers of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" noted back in November 2020. The lawsuit was signed by 567 persons, but the number of claimants may grow, human rights defenders have noted.

"The government will accelerate the solution of people's problems faced during the construction of the Irganai HPP," the website of the republic's government quotes Abdulpatakh Amirkhanov, the Dagestani Premier, as promising.
