In Yerevan, activists oppose revision of relations with Turkey

Today, oppositionists have held a protest action in Yerevan. The opposition considers unacceptable the statement voiced by the secretary for the Security Council of Armenia, who did not rule out the revision of relations with Turkey.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 16, in Yerevan, about 2000 people went to a rally with the demand to invalidate the 1921 agreement between the RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic) and Turkey to define the borders of Armenia. According to the protesters, the same old policy resulted in the transfer of Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan. Seven opposition parties demanded from the Armenian authorities to declare illegal the agreement signed 100 years ago. Furthermore, the ARF “Dashnaktsutyun” Party demanded from the authorities not to negotiate with Turkey.

Today, members of the ARF “Dashnaktsutyun” Party have held a protest action in front of the building of the Security Council of Armenia. Gegam Manukyan, the spokesman for the ARF “Dashnaktsutyun” Party, claimed that the Security Council became “a Turkish embassy in Armenia” and Armen Grigoryan, the secretary for the Security Council, “might safely say that he was a Turkish ambassador to Armenia,” the “News.am” reports.

The protest action was triggered by the words of Armen Grigoryan. In the course of an interview, when asked whether Armenia considered Turkey an enemy state, the secretary for the Security Council of Armenia answered that some corrections should be introduced in the Armenia's approaches, the “News.am” reports.

During the protest action, Gegam Manukyan has stated that the persons, who under the rule of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan became a tool of “pushing Armenia into the arms” of Turkey, do not have the right to hold public office.
