European Court will deliver a judgment on the case of two Chechen residents

On January 16, the European Court for Human Rights will notify about 27 court judgments made and will announce decisions on 24 cases. One of them refers applicants from Chechnya - Arbi Chitaev and his brother Adam, born in 1964 and 1967, respectively. Presently, the former lives in Germany, the latter - in the Irkutsk Region.

The applicants assert that they were tortured during their illegal detention by Chechen power units. Besides, in the words of the applicants to the European Court, their rights were breached for efficient investigation of the actions of the power agents and for medical care. The complaint also states inefficient activity when searching the private property stolen during detention. In their complaint, the Chitaev brothers refer to Articles 3 (humiliating and degrading treatment), 5 (right for freedom and safety), 8 (right for respect of private and family life), 13 (right for efficient medical treatment) and Article 1 of Protocol No. 1 (protection of property) European Convention on Human Rights.
