Organizer of terror acts in Moscow found dead in colony

Investigators have begun examining the circumstances of the death of Khalid Khuguev, an ethnic Chechen, who had been convicted on charges of organizing terror acts in Moscow back in 1999.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2009 the Moscow City Court sentenced Khalid Khuguev to 25 years in a high security colony for organizing terror acts committed in the "Intourist" Hotel and the "Okhotny Ryad" Shopping Centre in 1999. In 2010, the Supreme Court softened the verdict by reducing the term by two years.

Khalid Khuguev was found dead in the colony of the Primorsky Territory, the RIA "Novosti" has reported today, citing a source close to the investigation.

The information about the inmate's death has been confirmed by a source from the territorial branch of the Chief Administration of the Federal Penitentiary Service (know as FSIN), the RIA "Novosti" has reported. "The inmate was found with no signs of life; the branch is now conducting a check," said the FSIN source, adding that the check is conducted by the Investigating Committee.

According to investigators' basic version, Khalid Khuguev was killed as a result of a conflict with another inmate of Colony No. 27 in the Primorsky Territory, the "Kommersant" has reported today, citing its own informed source.
