Azerbaijani combat engineer blown up by a mine in Karabakh

47-year-old combat engineer Azer Sultanov was injured while demining a place at the construction site of a railway in the Djebrail District, the "Sputnik Azerbaijan" reports today. This is the fifth case of a mine explosion in January in the territories that came under the control of Azerbaijan as a result of the autumn escalation of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the "Sputnik Azerbaijan" reports.

Earlier, on January 21, Azerbaijani soldier Rashad Djavadov was blown up by a mine in the Fizuli District and killed in the explosion, the APA reports with reference to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD).

According to the calculations run by the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan, in the period from September 27 to November 30, 93 civilians in Azerbaijan were killed in missile attacks, and five persons were blown up by mines. During the above period, other 414 people were injured, the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan reported. Then, on December 13, 2020, in the territory of Agdam District, which came under the control of Azerbaijan as a result of the autumn escalation of the Karabakh conflict, three persons were blown up by a mine. One of them, a civilian, was killed, and two others, including a soldier, were injured.
