Azerbaijan announces launch of two HPPs in Nagorno-Karabakh

In the coming months, power engineers will complete the repair of two hydro power plants (HPPs) in Sugovushan, which will provide electricity to adjacent districts, the energy operator of the "Azerenerdji" has informed.

After the transfer of part of the territory of Karabakh to Azerbaijan, the unrecognized republic has faced a shortage of electricity due to the loss of most of the HPPs. In many Karabakh settlements, there are no electricity and gas supplies, and the Internet services, as the infrastructure is destroyed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that most of the substations and power lines from Armenia to Karabakh were damaged by shelling during the conflict escalation. Earlier, electricity came from Armenia.

Karabakh is provided with electricity only by the Sarsang HPP; electricity is supplied with breaks due to the overload. Karabakh authorities urge residents to save electricity in order "to avoid overloads."
