Social network users worried about Dagestani orphan's fate in Grozny

The information about the detention in Grozny of a 14-year-old orphan girl from Dagestan, who at this age was already one of the wives of an adult man, has alarmed social network users. The Children's Ombudsperson must check how the girl's rights are respected, commentators assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 13, 2020, in the Oktiabrsky District of Grozny, law enforcers blocked a house, in which, according to their information, alleged militants were hiding. In the shootout, four alleged militants were killed, two servicemen of the "Rosgvardia" (Russian National Guard) perished, and one law enforcer was wounded. After the counterterrorist operation (CTO), the owner of the house and his two wives, one of whom was pregnant, were detained, a local resident reported.

On January 5, the "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper reported the death of the three persons who were detained during the counterterrorist operation (CTO) conducted on October 13 in Grozny. According to the newspaper, one of the detained wives of the house owner was a 14-year-old orphan girl from Dagestan, who is still kept at the police station.

The story about the 14-year-old wife of a resident of Grozny, who was detained by law enforcers, has alarmed commentators to the "Novaya Gazeta" article. They expressed their indignation that an orphan girl at such a young age turned out to be the wife of an adult man and was detained by law enforcers. The children's ombudsperson is obliged to attend to the fate of this child, Internet users believe.

"They have defiled the child; and now policemen are forcibly keeping her in some unknown legal status," Maria Dobrushina wrote in her comment to the "Novaya Gazeta" article in the paper's page in the "VKontakte" social network.

"Is she wife at the age of 14? It's madness! It's a criminally punishable act," the user Elena Nikolskaya writes. "This is Caucasus. They often have their own laws there," the user Ilya Kalinin has objected. "It's territory of lawlessness," Clement Tiltilboim has added.

"It can't be the case that at the age of 14 she was allowed to get married; moreover, an orphan!!! Where does the guardianship look??? And what, interestingly, does the children's ombudsperson in the republic???" Olga Tsvetkova is outraged.
