Police detain Nikol Pashinyan's opponents in Yerevan

Protests with the demand of the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation continue in Yerevan. Protesters are blocking the streets.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 24, 94 people were detained at the protest action, and the protesters called the police actions particularly harsh.

Clashes with the police occurred at the intersection of Bagramyan Avenue and Proshyan Street, and several people were detained. The police unblocked the traffic, which was blocked by opposition supporters, but the protesters claimed they had the right to hold peaceful actions, after which the police detained several people, the international news agency "News Armenia" reported.

The opposition supporters tried to block traffic at the intersection of Abovyan and Tumanyan Streets, where clashes with the police also occurred.

The Armenian opposition raised the issue of the Nikol Pashinyan's resignation immediately after the signing of the peace agreement with Azerbaijan, which entered into force on November 10. The consideration of the above-mentioned initiative by the Armenian parliament is being hindered by the martial law still in force in the country. Both the President of Armenia and Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II called on Nikol Pashinyan to resign. The Prime Minister himself said that he was ready to resign if the people demanded that. At the same time, Nikol Pashinyan refused to consider the actions in Yerevan an expression of popular protest.
