Nagorno-Karabakh residents treat social help to those left homeless as insufficient

The authorities began transferring one-time help to those residents of Nagorno-Karabakh who had lost their homes as a result of the Karabakh conflict. It is possible to live on this money only for a couple of months; authorities should extend payments and start creating workplaces, the residents of Stepanakert interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that as a result of the conflict escalation, about 45,000 residents of Nagorno-Karabakh were left homeless, reported Grigory Martirosyan, State Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Aram Tadevosyan, a ministry official, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on December 24, authorities began paying one-time social help of 300,000 drams (over USD 600) to each family member of those who had lost their housing.

Vladislav Safaryan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that back in early December, his family submitted an online application for financial help; and one of these days they are planning to go and get the money. "Our application was approved. I think that this one-time aid will enable many families to survive for only a couple of months. The Armenian authorities should consider providing financial help for several months more, or within a year. Until jobs are created, it is necessary to support the families of those who had lost their homes and left their houses. It is imperative to resolve the issue of employment, in parallel with the housing issue," Mr Safaryan is sure.
