Some residents of Berdzor and two villages decide to stay home despite uncertainty
Some residents of Berdzor, Agavno, and Sus, controlled by Russian peacekeepers, decided to stay home, despite the transfer of the Lachin District to Azerbaijan. People request more information regarding the status of the above settlements.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the Azerbaijani army has taken control over the Lachin District (the Armenian name is Kashatag District, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), with the exception of the corridor providing communication between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev announced the construction of two new transport corridors in the conflict zone and stated the hope for joint residence of Armenian and Azerbaijani residents in Karabakh.
The Azerbaijani troops regained control over the Lachin District after 28 years. Most of the local residents had left the district before it was taken over by Azerbaijan.
Most residents of the Agavno village did not leave the village, while mainly women and children left. On the contrary, in the village of Sus, most of the residents left. The village has problems with communications, explains Musheg Alaverdyan, the head of the Kashatag District. According to him, the local authorities do not oppose the return of Azerbaijani refugees to the district.
Residents of the part of Karabakh, which remained under the control of Stepanakert, are worried that they will be in the blockade. They believe the travelling along the Lachin corridor is not safe.
Nine families stayed in the Agavno village, while the rest left, said Andranik Chavushyan, the head of the local community.
"We have to choose between the exodus, which is like death for us, or the life. We choose the life," the local leader stated.
