Conflict with Georgia is considered main topic of foreign policy in 2006 in the Russian Federation

Russians consider the development of relations with neighboring countries the main topic of RF foreign policy in 2006. This conclusion is based on the results of a poll conducted by sociologists among residents of the Russian Federation, reports "Interfax".

According to the data published in Moscow by the National Institute of Public Opinion, two-thirds of Russian respondents (69%) have pointed out in this connection the conflict of Russia with Georgia, while the rest (44%) to the "gas war" between Russia and Ukraine.

Among the main world events in international relations, 29% of respondents name the "G8" summit in St-Petersburg, 25% - war in Iraq and the death sentence to Saddam Khussein, 24% - change of government in Ukraine and return of Victor Yanukovich to the post of Prime-Minister. The Middle East is remembered by yet another war in Lebanon (16%), "caricature scandal " (12%) and the crisis around the Iranian nuclear program (11%), reports "NewsRu".
