At MP's funeral, Kadyrov ignores mask regime

Ramzan Kadyrov and his entourage arrived in the village of Roshni-Chu for the funeral of Vakha Agaev, a Russian State Duma MP, who died from coronavirus; the whole group was without protective medical masks. At the crowded funeral, no sanitary rules, which are mandatory for ordinary citizens, were observed, residents of Chechnya have pointed out.

The demand to wear a mask in public places has been in effect in Chechnya for four months; and the authorities are strictly enforcing this regime. However, the head of Chechnya himself and his entourage have repeatedly demonstrated disregard for the mask regime, which causes outrage in the republic.

The disregard for the "Rospotrebnadzor" (the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) rules during the funeral of Vakha Agaev is a sharp contrast with the demand of strict observance of the mask regime and other restrictions imposed on ordinary people, said Timur, a resident of Grozny.

Ramzan Kadyrov and his retinue would not wear medical masks deliberately, in order to stress the social gap between themselves and ordinary residents, said Ruslan Kutaev, an expert on the Caucasus.
